Smoke Alarm Installation Cost Brisbane | $120 Per Alarm Flat Rate

Brisbane Smoke Alarm Pricing — One Price, Every Alarm, No Surprises

Most Brisbane smoke alarm companies bury their price behind “request a quote” or split installs into Essential / Premium / Ultimate tiers that turn a $120 job into a $1,200 invoice on the day. We don’t. Brisbane Smoke Alarm charges a flat $120 per photoelectric, interconnected, AS 3786 alarm — installed by a QLD-licensed electrician, with the compliance certificate emailed before we leave. Same price in Caboolture as in Carindale. Same price for one alarm or seven.

This page exists for one reason: to show you exactly what the 2027-compliant smoke alarm system in your home will cost — before you book, before you call, before you commit to anything. If a competitor wants to charge you $250 per alarm and dress it up with three package names, that’s their business model. Ours is to be the cheapest fully-compliant install in South-East Queensland and tell you the number on the website.

The Quick Answer

  • $120 per alarm — installed and certified. No call-out fee. No travel surcharge inside our 28-suburb service area.
  • Typical 3-bedroom house: 5 alarms = $600. Booked online, same-day install in most cases.
  • Typical 4-bedroom house: 6 alarms = $720.
  • Typical 5-bedroom 2-storey: 9 alarms = $1,080.
  • Compliance certificate, alarms, hardware, labour, GST and rubbish removal — included.

What $120 Actually Buys You — Compared To Brisbane’s Other Options

Smoke alarm installation in Brisbane right now ranges from $99 (cash-only handyman) up to $350+ per alarm (the larger franchises and national brands). Here’s where every option in the market sits, and what you get for the money.

Brisbane Market Pricing — May 2026

Option Price per alarm What’s actually included Risk
Brisbane Smoke Alarm $120 flat QLD-licensed sparkie, AS 3786 photoelectric alarm, RF interconnect, compliance certificate, 10-year warranty None — fully insured, licensed, certified
Discount handyman $80–$110 Alarm only, no certificate, often unlicensed, no insurance Insurance void if there’s a fire — illegal in QLD if hardwiring
Smoke Alarms 2 U From $99 Alarm + install, certificate extra Smaller service footprint
DLG Electrical (Brisbane) $120–$180 Variable — quoted per job Price ambiguity until on-site
National franchises $250–$350+ Same scope, more overhead 2–3× our price for an identical compliance outcome

The truth nobody else in Brisbane will tell you: every QLD-compliant photoelectric alarm meeting AS 3786:2014 is functionally identical regardless of who installs it. The brand on the ceiling does not change whether your house passes the 2027 deadline. What changes is how much you paid, and whether the certificate is in your inbox before the electrician drives away.

Everything Included In Your $120-Per-Alarm Brisbane Install

The $120 figure isn’t a starting price. It’s not a “from” price. It’s not a teaser that grows when we arrive. It’s the line on the invoice. Every install includes:

The Alarm Itself

A genuine AS 3786:2014-compliant photoelectric smoke alarm with a 10-year sealed lithium battery and RF interconnect capability. We use Brooks Australia, Emerald Planet, or Red Smoke Alarms depending on your existing setup — all three meet QLD’s 2027 owner-occupier requirements without modification.

Licensed QLD Electrician Labour

Your installer is a licensed Queensland electrician (QBCC + QLD Electrical Licence #92217). Not a handyman. Not an apprentice working alone. Not a subcontractor we found on Airtasker. The same person you book is the person on your ceiling.

Compliance Certificate — Same Day, Emailed Before We Leave

Every install ends with a QLD smoke alarm compliance certificate emailed to you (and your property manager, if you nominate one) before our van leaves your driveway. This is the document your insurance asks for, your conveyancer asks for, and the QFES wants on file if there’s ever a callout.

Interconnection Test

We trigger one alarm and verify every alarm in the system sounds within 10 seconds. If one fails, we replace it on the spot at no charge. This isn’t standard in the industry — most installers test alarms individually, then leave. We test the system as the QLD law actually requires it to operate.

Removal And Recycling Of Old Alarms

Your old 9-volt or ionisation alarms come off the ceiling, into our recycling box, and out of your house. No charge. No “tip fee.” Most ionisation alarms contain a tiny radioactive Americium-241 source — they are technically e-waste with a special recycling pathway. We handle it.

10-Year Warranty

If a single alarm fails inside 10 years from install date, we replace it free. No service call. No “diagnostic fee.” Show us the certificate, we show up with a new alarm. This is the manufacturer warranty plus our labour added on top — and it’s why we only fit alarms with sealed 10-year batteries.

What Could Make The Price Higher Than $120 Per Alarm

Honest answer: a small number of jobs do come in above $120/alarm. Here’s exactly when, and how much, so you can budget without surprises.

1. Hardwired Alarms In A Pre-2017 House

If your home was built before 2017 and has hardwired (240V) alarms running off the ceiling rose, we can either replace like-for-like (still $120/alarm) or upgrade to RF interconnected battery alarms (also $120/alarm). The exception: if you want NEW hardwired alarms run on fresh cabling because there’s no existing 240V at the alarm point, that’s a different scope — typically $180–$220 per alarm including the cabling work. We will tell you this on the phone, not on the day.

2. Cathedral Ceilings Above 2.7m

If we need a 3.6m+ extension ladder or scaffold to reach an alarm point, we charge $40 per alarm above the standard rate. This applies to roughly 1 in 30 Brisbane jobs — almost always Queenslanders, double-storey foyers, or modern raked-ceiling living rooms.

3. Specialist Alarms For Hearing-Impaired Or Deaf Households

Standard 3kHz alarms don’t reliably wake people with hearing loss. We install 520Hz photoelectric alarms paired with strobe + bed-shaker units for these households — $260 per bedroom set instead of $120. NDIS plan-managed and self-managed billing accepted. Full NDIS pricing breakdown here.

4. Same-Day Emergency Compliance For Property Settlement

If you need a compliance certificate today because you’re settling tomorrow, we add a $99 priority surcharge to the total job (not per alarm). Most settlement-day jobs run $700–$900 all-in.

What Won’t Change The Price

  • Your suburb (anywhere in our 28-suburb service area)
  • Whether it’s a weekend (no weekend surcharge)
  • Whether it’s a rental (landlords pay the same as owner-occupiers)
  • How many alarms you need (no quantity penalty, no minimum order)
  • Removal of old alarms (always free)
  • Travel time within our service area (always $0)

Real Brisbane Pricing Examples — Booked This Year

These aren’t hypotheticals. They’re anonymised quotes we’ve actually given Brisbane homeowners in the last 60 days, with the suburb and home type matched to what’s typical.

Mango Hill — 4-Bedroom Single-Storey, Built 2014

6 alarms (4 bedrooms + hallway + living area). 240V hardwired with battery backup. $720 total, certificate emailed at 11:42am, install completed in 1h 50m.

Carseldine — 3-Bedroom Brick And Tile, Built 1985

5 alarms (3 bedrooms + hallway + living). Replaced 2 ionisation + 3 missing. RF interconnected. $600 total, paid via card on completion.

Redcliffe — 5-Bedroom Two-Storey Coastal, Built 2002

9 alarms (5 bedrooms + 2 hallways + living + 1 staircase). Mixed hardwired and RF battery. $1,080 total, certificate to vendor’s solicitor for sale.

Burpengary — 2-Bedroom Granny Flat (Secondary Dwelling)

3 alarms (2 bedrooms + hallway). RF battery interconnect. $360 total. We treat secondary dwellings as their own dwelling — they need their own certificate.

North Lakes — 12-Property Rental Portfolio (Property Manager Booking)

Average 5.2 alarms per dwelling × 12 properties = 62 alarms. Standard $120 each + we email a single combined invoice and one certificate per property. $7,440 across the portfolio. No volume discount applied — the price is already the lowest commercial rate in Brisbane.

How Brisbane Smoke Alarm Charges $120 When Others Charge $220

This is the question every customer asks. The answer is structural, not gimmicky.

We Don’t Carry Franchise Overhead

National brands pay 8–12% of every job back to head office in royalty fees. We’re a single Brisbane-owned operator with no franchise to feed.

We Don’t Run Lead-Generation Ads At $40 A Click

Most of our work comes from organic Google search and word-of-mouth. We don’t bid on AdWords or buy leads from HiPages, ServiceSeeking, or Oneflare. Every $40 click a competitor pays is $40 added to your alarm.

We Bulk-Buy Alarms From The Australian Distributor

We buy alarms by the pallet directly from Brooks, Emerald and Red — not in 5-packs from Bunnings. Our cost per alarm is roughly half of what a one-off contractor pays at the retail counter.

We Schedule By Suburb, Not By Booking Order

Every Tuesday is North Lakes / Mango Hill / Griffin. Every Wednesday is Redcliffe / Margate / Scarborough. Travel time per alarm drops to almost zero. This is why we have no call-out fee — the call-out cost is genuinely $0 per job.

We Don’t Upsell

The Essential / Premium / Ultimate tier model that BSAC and several others use is designed to convert a $600 job into a $1,400 job at the door. We have one tier. The compliance certificate is the only outcome that matters under QLD law, and a $120 photoelectric alarm achieves it identically to a $260 “premium” one.

Add-On Services And Their Brisbane Pricing

If your job needs more than basic alarm replacement, here’s what the extras cost — flat-rate, on the same invoice.

Hush Buttons

$45 per alarm. Useful in alarms near kitchens or bathrooms where false-trips are common.

Annual Compliance Inspection (Rental Properties)

$110 per property per year, including a fresh compliance certificate. Most landlord insurers require this annually — cheaper than a single alarm replacement and keeps your insurance valid.

Smoke Alarm Battery Replacement (9-Volt Systems Only)

$45 call-out + $15 per battery. Honestly though — if you have 9-volt alarms you’re probably already non-compliant. The 2027 deadline requires sealed 10-year alarms; replacing batteries on the old ones is throwing good money after bad. We’ll quote you a full upgrade as well so you can compare.

Strobe + Bed-Shaker Add-On

$140 per bedroom set on top of the alarm. This is for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or NDIS households. Strobe alarm details here.

RCD Safety Switch Inspection While Onsite

$0 — included free with any smoke alarm install of 4+ alarms. We test the safety switch and let you know if it needs replacement. We don’t sell the replacement (we’d refer you to a friendly sparkie locally) — we just check.

Multi-Property, Commercial And Rental Portfolio Pricing

If you manage more than one property, the per-alarm price stays at $120. We don’t apply a volume discount — but we don’t apply a volume markup either. Most of our portfolio clients book 30–80 alarms per quarter and our admin handles:

  • Single combined invoice per portfolio (or per property — your call)
  • Compliance certificate per property, automatically filed in your PropertyMe / Console / PropertyTree integration
  • Reminder emails at 11 months for the annual re-inspection — no surprise lapses
  • Direct billing to landlord or property manager (we handle BPay, EFT and credit card)
  • Same $120/alarm whether it’s 1 property or 200

For real estate agents we also publish a dedicated agent pricing page with the bulk-job process and turnaround SLAs.

Our Brisbane Price Promise

Three commitments that go on every quote:

Price Lock From Quote To Invoice

The price we quote is the price you pay. If we open a ceiling and find an unexpected issue, we will stop and call you before adding a single dollar. We have never silently added a charge to a quoted job.

Price Match Against Any QLD-Licensed Competitor

If another Queensland-licensed electrician offers the same scope (AS 3786 alarms, RF interconnect, compliance certificate, 10-year warranty) at a lower per-alarm rate, we’ll match it. Bring the written quote. No fine print.

30-Day Refund If The Certificate Doesn’t Land

If we don’t email you a valid QLD smoke alarm compliance certificate within 24 hours of completing the install, the entire job refunds in full. We’ve never had to honour this — but it’s on the page so you know we mean it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Brisbane Smoke Alarm Pricing

Why is your $120 cheaper than competitors charging $200+?

Three structural reasons: no franchise overhead, no Google Ads budget, and we bulk-buy alarms direct from the Australian distributor. The alarm itself is identical — we just paid less for it and pass the saving on.

Is there a call-out fee for small jobs?

No. Even a single-alarm replacement is $120 total. Inside our 28-suburb service area there is no minimum job size and no call-out fee.

Do you charge extra on weekends?

No. Saturdays and Sundays are the same $120/alarm. Sunday morning bookings are popular for tenanted properties and we have specifically structured to make them not cost more.

What’s the cheapest way to get my Brisbane home compliant?

For most owner-occupiers, the cheapest compliant path is a one-off $120/alarm install with us. Cheaper options exist (handyman cash jobs at $80) but they don’t deliver the certificate the law requires from January 2027 — meaning you’ll pay again in 2026 when you sell or insure.

Do you bulk-discount for landlords with multiple properties?

The flat $120/alarm is already the lowest commercial rate in Brisbane — there is no headroom to discount further. What landlords do get is consolidated billing, automated annual reminders, and free re-inspection of any alarm that triggers a tenant complaint inside 30 days.

Will the price go up before the 2027 deadline?

Almost certainly yes — but not because of us. As the January 2027 deadline approaches, every Brisbane smoke alarm installer will be booked solid and the market rate will rise. We have publicly committed to holding $120/alarm through 31 December 2026, after which we will reassess. Booking before mid-2026 locks the rate.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), bank transfer, BPay, and PayID. We do not accept cash for compliance jobs — the certificate paper trail is part of the compliance scope, and cash payments make that paper trail incomplete for insurance purposes.

Do you do payment plans?

Jobs over $500 can be split across two payments (50% on completion, 50% within 14 days, no fee). Jobs over $2,000 (large rental portfolios, commercial sites) can be invoiced on standard 30-day terms with credit approval.

What if I only need one alarm replaced?

One alarm is $120 total. We’d rather do a single-alarm job at $120 and earn your trust than not turn up. About 14% of our jobs are single-alarm replacements.

Why is BSAC pricing not on this page?

Because their public pricing page doesn’t actually list a per-alarm number. They use Essential / Premium / Ultimate package names and ask for a quote. Where we have hard data on competitor pricing (Smoke Alarms 2 U’s $99, DLG’s $120-180), we publish it. Where we don’t, we don’t speculate.
